Olivet Business School (OBS) students, enrolled in its Operations Management course, had a memorable visit to the Facebook Headquarters located in Menlo Park, CA.
Facebook staff provided a Olivet students a tour of their campus and shared information on its facilities and daily operations. OBS students also able met with several Facebook managers who presented insight on collaborative team work and engagement.
The trip was arranged by the business school faculty Joshua Kas-Osoka with the intention to expose students to management and operations at the world’s leading social media company.
“Facebook's culture is very inclusive. They encourage every employee to contribute their ideas, providing a platform to work on problem-solving and improvement, said Ezra Yu, an OSB Masters Student”
Business student, Amanda Zhang was impressed with seeing how the social media giant operated its vast departments.
“Maybe the most tangible sign of Facebook’s culture–at least to visiting outsiders–is the inspirational signage on its walls, most of which involve slogans encouraging staffers to regard their work as important to the world, to experiment early and often, and to empathize with the needs of Facebook users. Even these posters are evidence of the company’s distributed culture - all of these signs came from people in the organization. There is no central sign- or motto-producing team”, said Amanda Zhang.
Amidst the positive feedback, Olivet Business School will continue to arrange tours and offer opportunities for students to learn more about best practices at other world-class companies in the Silicon Valley.
